What should be basic food stuffs in Kenya have for the past one year been a luxury for many, this batch of tomatoes, which would normally go for 40 shillings per kilo, sky rocketed to 80 shillings per kilo, that’s a 100% rise in under year, the same was felt in maize meal and wheat flour, a factor that saw Kenyans imploring the government to take action and rein in the prices.
