Top Trader is CNBC Africa’s first reality show. With a view on becoming more Pan-African, it will start off with eight episodes filmed in Sandton, South Africa. The competition will run over an investment period of 6 months, from early to mid-2012, with broadcast planned for June and July.

To enter Top Trader to be considered as a participant you need to load a motivational video onto You Tube and send the URL of the video link on the space provided on the entry form below. Entry forms without the video link will not be considered for selection. Good Luck!

There is a total prize pot of R500 000, with the winner receiving R250 000. To win, you must have the best performing portfolio in the final episode. Entries are open to amateur investors only. Eight contestants will be chosen from video entries posted on this website. Please also fill in the Entry Form, and be sure to consult the Terms and Conditions.

Throughout the show, contestants can interact with viewers/internet users about their strategy and about how the game is going at any time.

From episode three onwards, one contestant will be eliminated in every episode, leaving three contestants to go through to the final. If you are based outside of Johannesburg, you will have to travel to Johannesburg for filming. The preliminary filming schedule can be seen below.

A “People’s Favourite” will be chosen from ABN Digital while the best performing portfolio will be the only criterion for winning the title of CNBC Africa’s Top Trader. Throughout the filming of the show, contestants will get to work with a core of three Mentors, rather than judges, who will share advice, tips and expertise. From Week 3, one other Mentor will join the panel – a different Mentor every week – in line with the Challenge of the Week.
