South Africa’s unemployment rate, estimated at 25% is among the highest in the world and has kept the nation’s credit rating at just a notch above investment grade at major rating agencies such as Standard & Poor’s. As the continent’s biggest economy struggles to create jobs for its 12 million unemployed, politicians, economists and South Africans are asking what economic policies are required to lift growth, create jobs and address the world’s worst income inequality.
