Car manufacturer Volkswagen VOWG-p.DE said on Wednesday it closed its Uitenhage plant in South Africa due to a component industry strike.

"This will result in a substantial loss of volume of Polo's destined for worldwide right-hand drive markets, as well as Polo and Polo Vivo Models destined for the local market," Bill Stephens, Volkswagen South Africa spokesman, said in a statement.
