Momentum Pre-budget Commentary: 2011 National Budget

The conditions under which Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, presents his second National Budget to Parliament on 23 February 2011 will be undoubtedly more favourable than they were last year. Tax collections are up and the budget deficit is estimated to narrow beyond initial forecasts to about 4.2%. This means that consumers are unlikely to be faced with significant increases in tax rates this year.

Points for Pravin ahead of Budget 2011

It's that time of year again when the man in charge of spending South Africa's tax payers money, tells them where it was spent. This is always a moot point - some people want that money to go to schools; others to roads, pensions and so on.

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan will deliver the budget on Wednesday. His predecessor Trevor Manuel used to invite Tips for Trevor - this year its points for Pravin.
